Boy Meets World star Will Friedle reveals he was recently hospitalized after waking up “badly peeing blood.”

The 50-year-old was diagnosed with a kidney stone, which he will have to pass.

Hospital staff recognized the actor, who joked, “I was more famous than I’ve ever been in my life.”

Boy Meets World star Will Friedle recently turned 50, and just experienced his first kidney stone.

The actor-turned-podcaster recounted all the painful details of this past Saturday when he spent the day in the hospital after “I woke up badly peeing blood.” As he explained to Pod Meets World co-hosts Danielle Fishel and Rider Strong, neither of whom have had a kidney stone, “You just think you’re going to the bathroom and then you’re like, ‘Oh my God, something inside me is horribly broken.’”

Friedle said when he exited the restroom, his wife Susan Martens immediately noticed something was wrong.

“She looks at me and she could tell she’s like, ‘You had no color in your face,’” he recalled. “I was like, ‘Well, because I just peed it all away
I need to go to the hospital.”

Once there, Friedle had to lie on a gurney in a hallway as he awaited an open room. It didn’t take long for someone to recognize Eric Matthews from Boy Meets World — and give him a taste of his character’s own medicine.

“For some reason on this day in that hospital, I was more famous than I’ve ever been in my life,” he joked. “And one of the nurses comes up to me and does the ‘Feeny Call’” — the taunt made famous by Eric to get Mr. Feeny’s attention on the series.

“She goes, ‘So you have a copay. It’s not much because your insurance is going to pay most of it. Blessed to have some good insurance. So here you go,” recalled Friedle. “‘And oh, you want to put it on a credit card?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, sure.’ I reach over and I hand her the credit card
and then she looks at me [and] she goes, “Feenay. Fee-hee-nay.”

Although Friedle appreciated the fan moment, internally, he was thinking, “Just filled up a glass with blood, but thank you.”

After a CT scan, the diagnosis was a kidney stone. The good news: Friedle’s is small enough that he won’t need to undergo a procedure to “blast” it into passable fragments.

The bad news: It’s small enough that he’s expected to pass it naturally through his urinary tract.

The process can be incredibly painful, so doctors prescribed OxyContin, a highly addictive opioid, “which I’m not going to take,” he admitted. “I’m going to do my best to not go anywhere near that stuff. Too many horror stories.”
