A top FBI official is clarifying reports regarding critical new DNA information being found at Nancy Guthrie's home in Tuscon, Ariz.

Ben Williamson, assistant director for public affairs at the FBI, shared on social media that the evidence, which included hair, does not provide any new information in the search for *Today *anchor Savannah Guthrie's mother.

"This is not new evidence or information. FBI asked to test this DNA 2 months ago with the same technology we’ve always had - when the local Sheriff instead sent it to a private lab. Any further developments we will share as soon as appropriate," Williamson said.

The information regarding the DNA evidence was first reported by NewsNation, which noted that the latest crop of evidence was distinct from samples that were recently tested at a Florida lab frequently used by the local investigating body in the case, the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

Previously analyzed DNA samples either did not match any entry on CODIS (Combined DNA Index System), the FBI's centralized database for DNA storage and research, or were compromised as a result of becoming "mixed."**

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing on Feb. 1. She was last seen by family members, who dropped her off outside her home in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood of Tucson the night before. Authorities declared the house and surrounding area a crime scene within days of her disappearance.

Shortly after a massive effort to find Guthrie began, the FBI released disturbing images and video captured from a Nest camera on Guthrie's door from the night of her disappearance. They depicted what FBI Director Kash Patel called an "an armed individual" appearing to tamper with the camera, and her case has been since treated as a possible abduction.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department and the FBI have publicly noted the discovery and analysis of evidence such as gloves, surveillance images, and more, but no suspects have been announced in a search that is now well into its third month.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department and the FBI urge those with information to contact them at 1-800-CALL-FBI.**
