‘Jeopardy!’ Fans Notice This Change Has Happened Since Ken Jennings Became Host

Newer Jeopardy! fans might not know that the rounds are timed, just that they have to finish within the 30-minute episode. Fans have noticed that ever since Ken Jennings took over as host, this particular thing doesn’t happen very often.
The Jeopardy rounds have often finished all of the clues since Jennings took over as host. When Alex Trebek was host, the Jeopardy rounds would often have a few clues remaining when the buzzer would go off for time to get to Final Jeopardy.
Fans discussed this on Reddit, coming to the conclusion that Jennings reads faster and gives less commentary between clues. “Timing,” a Reddit user shared. “Rewatching old episodes during the hiatus and noticed they time out in regular jeopardy and barely make it through double jeopardy by a large number of questions… did they lengthen the time or does Ken just read quicker?”
Reddit users discussed why they think this happens. “I think Ken reads a bit more quickly than Alex did, but I also think they more aggressively remove brief pauses, etc in the editing suite,” one fan said.

“Ken also rules very quickly (as I learned to my cost),” former contestant Laura Bligh chimed in.
“I think it’s mostly the pause editing. Cause I’ve noticed, the questions aren’t necessarily that much harder. But if I pause it(even a second), I can get more clues,” a fan replied.

“Alex often provided extra information after clues. Ken rarely does that,” another fan offered.
“Yeah, in retrospect the pace is almost brutally slow when you watch the Alex reruns,” a Reddit user replied.
“Great question. I have the same. I do notice that Alex would chat a bit more between questions than Ken. It could also be that players are just better these days, idk,” a fan said.
“Players have gotten better at playing. Not necessarily giving better answers, but being better at maximizing outcomes, which includes getting through all of the clues,” another fan offered.
