Entertainment Weekly has learned when Joy Behar is expected to return to The View.
A source gives EW an update on Behar’s recovery from a dislocated shoulder.
Behar, 84, first missed last Thursday’s episode of the live show, and hasn’t been at the Hot Topics table since.
After Joy Behar missed her first of several live View episodes after suffering a major injury, Entertainment Weekly has learned when the longtime cohost and comedian is expected to return to the show.
A source familiar with the situation tells EW that “Joy is taking a little time to recover” from her dislocated shoulder, which legal expert and current panelist Sunny Hostin revealed last Thursday as she filled in for Behar in the moderator seat (usual moderator Whoopi Goldberg was also out filming a movie for Netflix).
“We hope to see her back at the table next week,” the source adds, indicating that the 84-year-old could return next week after she makes a full recovery.

EW has reached out to Behar’s representative at The View for additional information on the star’s recovery.
Behar first missed the Thursday, Oct. 1 episode of The Viewafter dislocating her shoulder, and also missed the following day’s broadcast.
She was additionally absent from Saturday’s pre-taped Weekend View show, which allowed Behar’s fellow OG View panelist Debbie Matenopoulos — who pioneered the show alongside Behar, Barbara Walters, Star Jones, and Meredith Vieira — to fill in and sit at the moderator chair for the first time since 1997.
Behar typically has Mondays off, so she was not at the Hot Topics table at the top of the week, though she also missed shows on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, as well as the show’s live Behind the Table podcast presentation in New York City.

The playwright and TV commentator did, however, share a message for the audience that moderator Whoopi Goldberg read at the start of Wednesday’s show, which marked Behar’s 84th birthday.
“Despite sharing a birthday with Vladimir Putin, she does not have the Russian plague,” Goldberg said. “She’s still healing up after dislocating her shoulder. What we’re saying is: Get better fast so we can celebrate you back here on The View.”

Behar previously missed several episodes of The View over a foot injury in late 2025 after dropping a digital device and breaking her toe.
“They put the toes together because it’s broken, and it’s very, very, very painful. I do not recommend you dropping anything on your toes,” she said at the time, showing off her injury.
