24/7 Wall St.Quick Read -

MCD has slid 11% in 2026 to $274, but our model sees a path to $317 with a BUY rating at 90% confidence.

YUM's 12% revenue growth and CMG's 9% comp gains outpace MCD, but MCD's 46% operating margin and dividend make it the defensive pick.

Kempczinski admitted Q2 execution failed, and U.S. comps turning negative in July mean September's Investor Day is the make-or-break moment for the thesis.

McDonald's (NYSE:MCD) has slid through 2026, and investors question whether the golden arches still bend upward. My answer is yes, but only just. Below, I lay out the 24/7 Wall St. price target, why the model likes the setup, and where the bear case has real teeth.

MCD trades at $274.31 as of August 5, 2026, and our proprietary model sees room to run into year-end. The 24/7 Wall St. price target for McDonald's is $317.25, implying 15.65% upside. Our recommendation is buy, with confidence at 90%, which we consider high.

A Rough 2026 Sets Up an Interesting Entry

MCD has declined 11.12% year to date and 4.38% in the past month, retreating from a 52-week high of $337.56 toward the low of $260.96.

Q2 2026 delivered EPS of $3.38 against a $3.32 consensus, on revenue of $7.10 billion (a 0.39% miss). Global comparable sales decelerated to 1.3%, and U.S. comps came in at just 0.8%.

CEO Chris Kempczinski told analysts, "We don't have a strategy problem. We simply didn't execute at the level we needed to in the second quarter." The appointment of Skye Anderson as U.S. President is management's answer.

Why Bulls See a Breakout Ahead

The bull case rests on execution. Beverages launched in the U.S., Canada, and Germany with sales ahead of plan and average checks up roughly 50% over the full-day average. Loyalty scale expands, with nearly 220 million 90-day active users driving over $40 billion in trailing systemwide sales.

Analyst consensus sits at $323.58, with 19 buy ratings against just one sell. If EDAP execution snaps back and June's tick up in consumer sentiment to 49.5 holds, our bull scenario points to $346.60.

What Could Go Wrong

U.S. comps turned slightly negative in July, and consumer sentiment at 49.5 remains in recessionary territory. Q2 SG&A jumped 17%, and China and France remain negative. Only 60-65% of the U.S. system executes recommended EDAP pricing.

Bulls counter that the SG&A jump reflects the operator convention, a non-recurring event, and that H1 2026 EPS of $6.21 already tracks to management's mid-to-high 40% operating margin guide. Our bear case marks the stock at $292.53, above today's price.

How McDonald's Compares to Yum and Chipotle

Yum! Brands (NYSE:YUM) is the sharpest global franchise-model comp. YUM posted Q2 2026 revenue of $2.17 billion, up 12.3% YoY, with Taco Bell same-store sales at 7%. Yum compounds faster on the top line than MCD's 3.7%, suggesting our target may be conservative.

Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE:CMG) is the QSR growth counterpoint. CMG grew Q2 revenue 9.3% to $3.35 billion with comps of 2.2%, but restaurant-level margin compressed to 25.2% from 27.4%. MCD's 46.10% operating margin and 2.68% dividend yield make it the defensive choice against CMG's growth-with-margin-erosion profile. On that basis, our 22x implied multiple looks reasonable.

McDonald's Price Prediction 2026-2030

The 24/7 Wall St. price target for McDonald's is $317.25, buy, at 90% confidence. Even our bear case sits above today's quote.

Watch for Q3 U.S. comps stabilizing and EDAP compliance improving as confirmation of the thesis. A continuation of July's negative U.S. comps through Investor Day on September 23, 2026 would weaken it.

These projections assume McDonald's executes on its 50,000-unit target by 2028 and the beverage platform scales globally. Upside or downside could come from consumer sentiment and whether Skye Anderson's turnaround plan restores U.S. traffic momentum.
