Prince George completed his first month at Eton College, and as a reward, he got the weekend off. But it wasn't just the young royal, the entire school was released for a short leave from October 2 to October 4.
Eton kicked off the Autumn term for the 2026/2027 school year on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. His parents, Prince William and Princess Kate, dropped him off the day before to give him a chance to get settled in.
Eton is in driving distance of their home in Windsor, but it is a sleep away boarding school, so getting the chance to go home for the first time is a big deal, according to PEOPLE magazine.

While this is the first official "short leave" for all of the students, there was also a "B Weekend" in September, which is an optional leave.
With this being George's first time away from home, it's being suggested he may have opted to go home and spend the two days away from school - September 19 and September 20 - with his parents and two younger siblings.

Since B Weekends aren't as official as short leaves, students are expected to fullfill their commitments on Saturday and back by Sunday evening before the school week begins.
Back in July, we checked in with royal expert Pauline Maclaran to ask her about what to expect in the fall, and now that George has completed his first month at Eton, it seems like her assessment is matching up.

"I think George will blend into the crowd at Eton in that there will be plenty of other boys there also coming from wealthy and well-known families and he is unlikely to stand out in this respect," said Maclaran, Professor at Royal Holloway, University of London.
"He will also be shielded there from the public eye and this should allow him to benefit from his school years to the full," she added.

While going away to a new school may be fun and exciting, it also comes with its challenges.
George is adjusting to a school environment with tight technological limits. Eton enforces an overnight ban on devices, restricts first-year pupils to specific Microsoft 365 apps on school iPads and prohibits smartphones entirely in favor of basic non-internet "brick" phones.
It sounds like those little breaks may be needed as it appears the school comes with some hard-knock rules.
Also, stating the obvious, George probably misses his younger siblings, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8.
