Alabama cornerback Dijon Lee committed a personal foul penalty after a play, sinking the Crimson Tide's chances of beating Georgia. How it happened.

No. 6 Alabama's 20-17 loss to No. 2 Georgia was with rife with controversy, with Crimson Tide fans and neutral observers alike wondering aloud whether officials affected the game too much in the final quarter.

The killing blow came not from a controversial call, however, or even from Georgia itself. It instead came from a Dijon Lee personal foul penalty at the 2:19 mark in the fourth quarter that allowed Georgia to kneel out the remainder of the game clock following the 2-minute timeout.

Lee, who was routinely targeted by Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton throughout the top-10 matchup, got into a shoving match with freshman receiver Craig Dandridge, hitting him in the face twice following the conclusion of Georgia's second-down play.

Had he maintained his composure, it would have set up a crucial third-and-2 play that, had Alabama defended it, would have allowed the Crimson Tide to get the ball back for one last scoring opportunity. Instead, following the penalty, Georgia got a fresh set of downs and knelt the ball three times to leave Tuscaloosa with a win.

Alabama football coach Kalen DeBoer, naturally, was irate at his sophomore cornerback. ESPN cameras caught the Crimson Tide coach screaming at him and saying, in part, "You cost us the game."

Here's what DeBoer said of the penalty and Lee after the game:

"We preach emotional maturity, and I really feel strong across the board we had that with our team, and didn't," DeBoer said. "We never expected that to happen. If you're out there giving everything you've got, you've got to give yourself a chance.

"Emotional maturity is what it comes down to and, you know, we've been pretty good at that the last two years. Obviously, when a moment comes up like we had just now, we didn't respond the right way."

DeBoer wasn't the only person to address the penalty, either, with fellow defensive backs Bray Hubbard and Keon Sabb also saying Lee's penalty didn't rise to Alabama's standard.

"He wasn't up to that standard," Sabb said, "and it will be addressed."
